Is Teflon safe now?

The answer to this depends on the type of Teflon and the application. There are some Teflons that are considered safe for direct food contact applications. These are FDA approved and are PFOA free. And then there are some Teflons that are not considered safe for direct food contact, but it all depends on what someone is meaning by the word SAFE

Are there different types of Teflon?

Yes. There are several basic types of Teflon. PTFE, FEP, PFA and ETFE. More information can be found on our Coating Range page 

Are Teflon and PTFE the same thing?

Yes. Teflon is the industry name and PTFE is the shortened name for the chemical name Polytetrafluorethylene.

Teflon can handle extremes of temperature. It is effective at continuous surface temperatures up to 260 degrees centigrade, and higher temperatures over shorter periods.
