In the Teflon coating process sand blasting is one of the key requirements, for more than one reason.

Firstly, sand blasting is needed in the Teflon re-coating process where an old Teflon or other coating needs to be removed prior to the new coating being applied. It will also assist in smoothing out any imperfections in the substrate surface.

Secondly, sand blasting is a key requirement for surface preparation of the substrate to be coated, as the etching it created on the substrate surface is what enables the Teflon coating to have excellent adhesion.

Grit or abrasive blasting, more commonly known as sandblasting, is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface or remove surface contaminants.
